MONSTER ABOUT

Who we are

Our Dance Studio is truly one of a kind and everything was carefully thought out in order to give our dancers the best possible experience. Come learn with the best at MM13! Whether your focus is technique, flexibility or you’re just looking for a new way to work out, you can find it here. Explore our site for more information, and feel free to reach out with questions.

The MM13’s main goal is to promote a healthy way of life and provide an education of the youth about the modern-street dance styles such as disco dance, hip hop and more. As most of the dance styles taught in the studio are competitive dance styles, the MM13 is attending competitions like an ultimate way of testing the progress and level of the dance students and it has been proved it has highly motivational effect. The founder of the MM13, Miss Marica Glišović, has been working and living in Estonia for 6 years now and with her work she has inspired and lifted up the level of Estonian dancers. After careful planning she decided to lead a team which will work towards the goals in the best way. Apart from being a healthy activity for both body and mind, the teachings of the MM13 team are helping to gain confidence, practice team work and develop a sport spirit. With more than 20 year experience in dancing, and around 15 years experience in teaching, influenced by her life experience and Balkan temperament and inspired by her work with youth in Serbia, Marica is determined to continue passing on the knowledge gathered and to inspire the future dance generations. She has been teaching over 300 kids in Estonia since 2015. and her choreography has been awarded more times than she can count, she realized the wonderful potential of the Estonian children and an utmost need of guiding the young talents towards their road to success.

Come and join us if you want to master your skills to become a professional dancer, and/or if your goal is just to have fun and make new friends! We love watching all of our students grow and gain more confidence through the performing arts and having a bunch of fun along the way.

HIP-HOP DANCE

Hip-hop dance refers to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. It includes a wide range of styles primarily breaking which was created in the 1970s and made popular by dance crews in the United States. The television show Soul Train and the 1980s films Breakin’, Beat Street, and Wild Style showcased these crews and dance styles in their early stages; therefore, giving hip-hop mainstream exposure. The dance industry responded with a commercial, studio-based version of hip-hop—sometimes called “new style”—and a hip-hop influenced style of jazz dance called “jazz-funk”. Classically trained dancers developed these studio styles in order to choreograph from the hip-hop dances that were performed on the street. Because of this development, hip-hop dance is practiced in both dance studios and outdoor spaces.

DISCO DANCE

Disco is a musical style that emerged in the early 1970s from America’s urban nightlife scene, where it originated in house parties and makeshift discothèques, reaching its peak popularity between the mid-1970s and early 1980s. Disco was a key influence in the later development of electronic dance music and house music. With a slight faster tempo comes the music for the disco dance style which we teach in the MM13. The style is influenced by the disco we remember with a twist. The style itself demands very agile, flexible body, high endurance and strength which, while performing it on the stage, must look effortless. As MM13 is a part of Estonian Dance organization and as such is also a part of International Dance organization which perfected practicing and competing in disco dance.

ACROBATICS

Acrobatics (from Greek ἀκροβατέω akrobateō, “walk on tiptoe, strut”) involve movements that are a combination of difficult feats of balance, agility and coordination that often utilize apparatus such as tightropes, trapezes, unicycles, balls, barrels, and/or poles. The performance of acrobatics requires quick reactions, and accurate timing. While considered to be a performing art, it is also practiced competitively as a sport. Acrobats’ feats leave most viewers in awe of the individual’s ability to engage their bodies in seemingly impossible actions. Acrobats seem to defy all physical limitations with their extreme actions and fearlessness.
Nearly any activity which involves full-body movement propelling an individual through air and space can be considered acrobatics. Acrobatics is a specialized activity that is incorporated into gymnastics, diving, and dance in the form of tumbling and other movements such as flips, somersaults, headstands, and handstands. The term “acrobatics” can also refer to “acrobatic gymnastics,” or “sport acrobatics,” a specialized subdivision of gymnastics, which is a competitive sport in its own right.
Acrobatics is a versatile sport or activity that can be suited to boys or girls and requires little or no equipment other than a gym mat, a trampoline, or even just a backyard. Acrobatics can improve strength and overall body conditioning when done safely.

JAZZ DANCE

Jazz dance is a term used to describe the performance dance technique and style that emerged in America in the early twentieth century. Jazz dance began as an African American social dance that had roots in African slave dances. Over time, a clearly defined jazz genre emerged, changing from a street dance to a theatrical dance performed on stage due to the work by artists such as Jack Cole (choreographer), Bob Fosse, Eugene Louis Faccuito and Gus Giordano. Today’s Jazz Dance as a discipline may be danced using many different styles and tempos, using themes based on Afro-Cuban, Oriental, Spanish or other national themes. It may be performed as a character but it may also be abstract in nature. Show Dance in the broadest sense is based either on any Jazz/Lyrical, Ballet and/or Modern and Contemporary dance technique. It is very important to present harmony of idea, music, dance, choreography, costume and props in the presentation, and all Show Dance presentations are be based on a concept, story, theme or idea.

Head to Toe

MAMMA MIA

This program came to life as the dance moms of MM13 were persistent in their wishes to be active in the similar way their children are. The more they watched their children achieving the unbelievable body form during their disco classes the more they wished to attempt doing the same. This program was invented by the main coach of the MM13, Marica. The disco dance influence is clearly visible throughout the classes, hence also the name of the style, but in the modified approach which is also focused on reaching good fitness condition, reinforcement of endurance, explosiveness of the muscles and achieving better flexibility but it is still toned down from professional disco training and it protects the joints and ligaments and overall body from injuries. The program itself is consisted of more fun approach to disco dance and we hope it will become successful since this is something brand new. Come try it out!
